crazy days

These are my guys and that's the house we live in. We used to leisurely stroll around the yard in the evening and play with the dog. Not so anymore. Yesterday was my first day back at work full time and it's hard in so many ways. We're suddenly scrambling in the evening to get supper made, the baby bathed, fed, put to bed (over and over again). And it's hard to be away from him during the day. I've cried in front of my colleagues on several occasions during the last two days. We're wondering if it's worth it. It's only day two... but golly!
We'll keep living towards a decision. It'll get easier or it won't. If not then I'll be a stay-at-home lady which doesn't sound too bad about now. Off to hold my baby.

the hand off

Isaac has been in training for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day he begins his full time stay with the sitter. The sitter, Therese, is a friend of ours who has her own little guy, 15 month Elzo. Isaac spent a bit of time over there last week and loves it. Each time I've gone to pick him up he's been sleeping or smiling. The first day he was there Therese managed to simultaneously nurse her son while giving Isaac a bottle. Amazing. We are grateful she gave in to our arm twisting and begging because it is turning out to be a great fit.

4 month check up

Isaac had his four month check up the other day. It was more like his four and a half month check up. He's at 14 pounds and 24 inches long. His two lower-front teeth are coming in and he's ready to start solids. We gave him a bit of cereal yesterday.

He was kind of curious about it, but very little of it stayed in his mouth.
Aside from starting solids and getting teeth, Isaac is also beginning to bear weight on his legs (finally!), is rolling over every which way, blowing raspberries, and sleeping for longer stretches at night. He's a super sweet guy and we're so glad he's ours.

play time

Hey Dad. What are you doing?

Oh, we're playing tigers! Roar!

Um Dad, we're just pretending. You don't actually...

eat my hand!

Wo. That was a close one.

Let's do it again!

back from the lake

We spent a week at my family's cabin up north. There were plenty of lazy days and time for playing on the lake.

This guy could frequently be found zipping around the lake.

After a pretty quiet week we were joined by my cousin and her family. It was the first time Isaac has met them.
Here are the two little tykes together. Sadly, they are both staring at the television.

Exciting days at the lake can lead a little guy to this.
Which is greatly remedied with some chill out time with pa.

Then when you get your second wind, it's back to play time...

or perhaps it's time to settle in with a good book.

We didn't spend all of our time at the lake. We went on a few outings including a trip to Itasca State Park. We stopped at the Lodge for a bite to eat before going to the headwaters.

Here Isaac contemplates the ice cream we had for desert. Soon enough, little buddy.

Then it was off to the water. I carried Isaac across the Mississippi.

Then he put his little feet in that great big river.

And after that, and more, we wrapped up our summer travels and headed home. We'll be here for the next weeks getting ready for Carl and I to head back to work. Yikes!
